I have been waiting for a refund for exactly 4 months and 10 days now. Funny thing is, on 14 Apr 2020 I received an email confirming they had issued the agreed refund. I have been following-up on a regular basis since then: through their web forms (around 10 times) and by calling the call centre. I wonder if I will ever receive it, actually. What I do know for sure is that I will never purchase tickets from this airline.

Where did you buy your ticket? If online, you may need to request through their system but if through a travel agency then you need to ask from them.

It’s better if you contact the Turkish airlines. usually, the agency will refund you if you booked with them and not directly through Turkish Airlines.

so where is the problem

Nevin Shalaby says: is it due Covid – 19 ? larse says:

This article does not really address the main issue: refunds just doesn’t happen. The airline may say they have “queued” you for the refund and then you sit back and wait. And nothing happens. I too have waited for +4 weeks. Bear in mind that refunding is a highly automated process within an airline company. They are used to processing many, many refunds every day, for example for business class tickets. Therefore, my guess would be that under normal circumstances the process is really STP (straight-though-processing) and untouched by human hand, once approved. The only reason why refunding now takes time is because the airline has decided to ACTIVELY delay. It is not because it requires a lot of manual processing. So don’t believe the BS the airline may give you here. I wish airlines would come clean and say that they need to borrow money from consumers during this crisis. At least then we could have a discussion of whether or not this is fair. I don’t think it is. Consumers are also hit by the crisis. If airlines have an immediate liquidity problem it should be solved at state/government level. After all, the consumer has purchased as service which was never delivered. and for which the airline only to a minimal extend has had a cost. If you think of it is even more crazy: they are also withholding the taxes which is a significant part of the total cost of the ticket. Taxes they’
ll never have to pay to the authorities because the flight never actually happened. Madness.
